Mission Outcomes & Objectives

The Industrial Engineering Technology program of Southern Polytechnic State University has a mission to provide undergraduate education in industrial engineering technology related fields to serve the manufacturing and service industries. The program prepares graduates for careers that are concerned with the design, implementation, evaluation and improvement of integrated systems of people, machines, energy, information and logistics. IET graduates are well prepared to lead the scientific and economic development of an increasingly complex state, nation and world. Additionally they have an appreciation for the impact that various political and social issues can have on their companies. Our mission is to serve both traditional and non-traditional students at the undergraduate and graduate levels and to empower them with the ability and vision to transform the future.

Student Outcomes:

Graduates of the Industrial Engineering Technology Program will demonstrate the following:

A.  An ability to select and apply the knowledge, techniques, skills, and modern tools of the discipline to broadly-defined engineering technology activities;

B.  An ability to select and apply a knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering, and technology to engineering technology problems that require the application of principles and applied procedures or methodologies;

C.  An ability to conduct standard tests and measurements; to conduct, analyze, and interpret experiments; and to apply experimental results to improve processes;

D.  An ability to design systems, components, or processes for broadly-defined engineering technology problems appropriate to program educational objectives;

E.  An ability to function effectively as a member or leader on a technical team;

F.  An ability to identify, analyze, and solve broadly-defined engineering technology problems;

G.  An ability to apply written, oral, and graphical communication in both technical and non-technical environments; and an ability to identify and use appropriate technical literature;

H.  An understanding of the need for and an ability to engage in self-directed continuing professional development;

I.  An understanding of and a commitment to address professional and ethical responsibilities including a respect for diversity;

J.  A knowledge of the impact of engineering technology solutions in a societal and global context;

K.  A commitment to quality, timeliness, and continuous improvement;

L.  An ability to accomplish the integration of systems using appropriate analytical, computational and application practices and procedures and

M.  An ability to apply knowledge of probability, statistics, engineering economic analysis and cost control and other technical sciences and specialties necessary in the field.

 Program Objectives:

Graduates of the Industrial Engineering Technology Program will:

1.  Meet industry expectations for design, improvement, and installation of integrated systems of people, machines, materials, information, energy and logistics;

2.  Possess a balance of knowledge that encompasses the specialties in the industrial engineering spectrum;

3.  Be capable of combining the knowledge and practice of engineering technology with the science of decision making in business, manufacturing, and service;

4.  Be capable of using the sciences together with methods of engineering analysis and design to evaluate, specify, and predict the results to be obtained from integrated systems;

5.  Be capable of career advancement with increasing responsibilities;

6.  Understand legal, political, social and ethical issues to increase their sense of responsibility, membership, and awareness in society and

7.  Possess the necessary interpersonal skills to communicate and work effectively in teams and adapt to change.
