The Office of Disability Services provides services for students with chronic, documented disabilities. SPSU is committed to providing all students access to academic, cultural, and recreational facilities. In addition, we are committed to fostering a positive attitude toward individuals with disabilities in school and in life.
Our purpose is to improve the educational development of students with disabilities and to enhance the understanding and support within the institute through equitable access, accommodations, and the provision of programs and services.
Our office currently serves over 150 successful students with various chronic disabilities to help them succeed in school and in life.
Examples of some qualifying disabilities are (but not limited to): Hearing Impairment, Visual Impairment, Mobility Impairment, Learning Disability, Attention Deficit Disorder, Asperger's/Autism Spectrum, Cancer or other health related conditions, Seizure Disorder, Multiple Chemical Sensitivity, Multiple Sclerosis, Muscular Dystrophy, Brain Injury.
Accommodations and services provided may include (but not limited to): registration assistance, test proctoring, enlarged print or Braille, alternate formats for textbooks, interpreting services, note-taking assistance, removal of structural barriers, accessible housing, communication with faculty about disability-related needs, and coordinating actions, policies, and procedures that affect students with disabilities.
