After beginning the 2012-13 season with a perfect 7-0 overall record, the Southern Polytechnic State University women’s basketball team received 23 points to rank 29th nationally, according to the first in-season NAIA Division I Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll. Southern Polytechnic was unranked in the preseason coaches’ rating that was announced on Oct. 23.
Lubbock Christian University, with an 11-0 overall record, is atop the poll after receiving 281 points and 10-of-11 first-place votes. Freed-Hardeman University is 8-0 overall and at No. 2 after being awarded 272 points and the remaining first-place vote, and is followed by Vanguard University (4-0 overall, 262 points), Westminster College in Utah (7-1, 255) and Westmont College (7-1, 245). Besides Southern Poly, other Southern States Athletic Conference teams in the rating include Lee University (No. 6, 7-1 overall, 229 points), Auburn University at Montgomery (tied for 20th, 9-0, 105) and Faulkner University (No. 25, 9-1, 67).
