Welcome to the Vice President for Academic Affairs webpage!
These are exciting times for Southern Polytechnic State University. We've added many new academic programs over the past few years, including degrees in Architecture (M.S. in Architecture), Arts & Sciences (B.S. in Chemistry, B.S. in Political Science, B.S. in Psychology), Business (B.S. in Accounting, M.S. in Accounting), Computing (B.S. in Computer Game Design), Education (B.S. in Biology with Teacher Certification, B.S. in Chemistry with Teacher Certification, B.A. in Mathematics with Teacher Certification, and B.S. in Physics with Teacher Certification); and in Engineering (B.S. in Civil Engineering, B.S. in Electrical Engineering, B.S. in Mechanical Engineering).
We've opened up more than $100 million worth of new facilities in the past year, including a beautiful new Engineering Technology Center, a new Architecture Design Studio Building (winner of a national gold award for its beautiful brickwork, as well as an AIA award), new residence halls, a new dining hall, and a new parking deck.
We've hired new faculty who are great teachers, innovative researchers, and strongly dedicated to student success to join our excellent established faculty. A spotlight of recent faculty accomplishments can be found here.
We've received several major grants and donations, including a $1.4 million grant to support our new education program, a $4.5 million donation of new robots for our mechatronics engineering program, and a $450,000 grant to purchase a scanning electron microscope for our mechanical engineering technology program. SPSU spends well over $1 million every year on new laboratory equipment, keeping our labs at the cutting edge.
Our academic programs are well known for producing graduates that are ready to "hit the ground running", and who are critical to building the future Georgia and American economy. All of our programs are accredited by SACS (the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools), and many of them are also accredited by their professional bodies. The most recent programs to become accredited are Construction Engineering, Computer Game Design, and Software Engineering, all accredited by ABET, as are all undergraduate engineering technology programs and computing programs at SPSU. Other professional bodies accrediting programs at SPSU include NAAB (architecture), ACCE (construction management), and ACBSP (business and accounting). One of our programs, the Master of Science in Information Technology, was recently ranked #1 in the nation by US News & World Report for student engagement and accreditation.
Our academic programs are divided into five schools:
- The School of Architecture and Construction Management
- The School of Computing and Software Engineering
- The School of Engineering Technology and Management
- The School of Arts and Sciences
- The School of Engineering
- Graduate Studies
- Continuing Education
- Office of International Programs
- Online Learning
- Southern Polytechnic Applied Research Centers
- The University Honors Program
- The Library
- The ATTIC (Advising, Testing, Tutoring, and International Student Center)
Most importantly of all, SPSU students are the very best and achieve tremendous accomplishments. They participate in a broad variety of academic competitions regionally and nationally. Some of their most recent achievements can be found here.
