After 30 hours of course work, students will be able to apply for admission into the teacher education program. Faculty evaluation of success in introductory courses and other relevant material (including completion of a criminal background check) will be used to assess candidates for admission.
Candidates may not be admitted into a program until the program has been approved by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission.
Admission into the Southern Polytechnic State University teacher education program requires students to meet the following criteria:
Students who are admitted into the teacher education program are referred to as teacher candidates, or candidates, and may register for courses for which candidacy is a prerequisite. A student who fails to satisfy all the admissions criteria may be admitted provisionally upon the approval of the program co-directors. A provisional candidate may continue to take classes in the program, but must satisfy all admissions criteria within one semester, or be ejected from the program.
A candidate whose GPA drops below 2.5 in any of the specified areas of course work for two consecutive semesters will be ejected from the program, but may reapply for admission if the GPA is restored to 2.5 or higher.
