Physics Education

As the SPSU teacher education student you will find a plethora of opportunities to help students figure out their world—from how their toys and gizmos work to the edge of the universe and where philosophy and religion began. While you will not have all the answers, you will be well prepared in the science of energy and the dynamics of energy with matter.

 As a SPSU physics teacher, you will learn to do the following:

Use the state and national curricula to give the students the foundational understanding of physics needed in a modern world .

• Guide students to understand the world of energy and the dynamics of matter;

• Get them to work in teams;

• Show them how to collect data using technology, and how to analyze those data in graphs and tables;

• Get them to see the world as scientists see it;

• Challenge them to apply concepts and solve problems.

Our program builds upon your major in physics with an educational track, leading to certification. When you successfully complete this program you will be recommended for certification to teach physics, grades 6-12. Through reciprocity with other states that Georgia teaching certification allows you to apply to teach anywhere in the nation—and most places need physics teachers. Fewer physics majors are available to teach than any other discipline.
