Welcome to SPSUTeach

SPSUTeach We should have called it ULearn

SPSUTeach replicates the nationally-recognized UTeach Program at the University of Texas at Austin, and is the only Polytechnic currently offering this program. The UTeach program has a reputation for producing high quality high school science and math teachers. Just as SPSU is different from other universities, SPSUTeach is different from other teacher education programs. The focus is inquiry-based instruction, so you learn by doing.

One Degree, Two Career Paths

With SPSUTeach, with a degree in Biology, Chemistry, Math, or Physics, you have two career paths. The first class (STEP 1) offers students who make a “B” or better a $175 Merit Award -  essentially that means the class is free. No further commitment beyond the first class is required.

Why Not Explore a Little

Odds are you’ll either change your major once, twice or end up doing something entirely different than the degree you earned once you graduate. In the first weeks of the introductory STEP 1 course, you will teach a demonstration lesson to real students. By the end, you will teach two more demonstration lessons to students. If you love teaching, great you now have two career options instead of one. If not - check out the benefits of taking SPSUteach coursework even if you decide not to teach.

If you decide to teach, SPSUTeach prepares you for today’s classroom. We offer you a BS or BA degree in your field of expertise (Chemistry, Biology, Physics or Mathematics) along with a teaching certificate. The SPSUTeach program is designed to provide you with exceptional education in your chosen discipline and a practical, thorough education in how to effectively teach high school science and mathematics.

To find out more about SPSUTeach, fill out our interest form, and we will be happy to answer any of your questions.
