The Southern Polytechnic State University Hornets Men's Soccer team traveled to Southern States Athletic Conference foe, Brewton Parker College for their seventh straight conference match. After a scoreless first half, the Hornets scored three times to secure the victory 3-1. The win puts SPSU at 11-2-0 on the season and drops BPC to 4-10-1.
Hornet, Forward, Emeka Maduka opened up the scoring when he stripped a Baron Center Back and went straight to goal. It would be his eighth goal of the season, and his fourth shot on goal in the game. "Emeka had two great looks in the first half. He deserved a goal on the day," said Head Coach, Kom Momeni.
The next two goals for the Hornets came off the foot of Senior, Sean Grisham. It would be his fourth and fifth goals on the year and his second consecutive match with a game winning goal. The assists on his goals were courtesy of Jumol Harewood and Lesego Molemogi.
Southern Poly out shot Brewton Parker 33 to 2 and still let in a goal, when Baron Forward, Adam Beattie placed a ball in the lower right hand corner of the goal. It was the first goal conceded by Hornet GK, Dennis Kramer.
With the victory, SPSU clinches a birth in the 2011 SSAC Men's Soccer Tournament, which starts play on Saturday, Nov. 5. "With three more conference games left, it is crucial that we hit our stride going into the Conference Tournament," said Momeni.
