Marietta, GA

Senior Rani Alkoptan scoring his first goal of the game and season.
In a SSAC Conference match that featured the Hornets hosting the Bears from Truett-McConnell
College, it took Southern Poly 30 minutes to get on the board and they never looked
back. Senior Rani Alkoptan scored on his first touch of the game. Southern Poly
would then add three more to secure the 4-0 victory. The win improves Southern Poly
to 9-2 on the year.
The first half saw Southern Poly dominate play as they would create many scoring chances
early. Junior Emeka Maduka and Senior Jumol Harewood would each have chances to score,
but both were unable to get Southern Poly out to a lead. When Junior Andre Santos
came off due to an injury, the substitute Alkoptan would take full advantage of his
first touch. The senior would rise above the defense and head a corner kick from
Senior Sean Grisham into the back of the net. The goal, Alkoptan's first of the season,
would open the scoring. Minutes later, Harewood would add to his team leading tally
as he picked up a deep cross from Junior Lesego Molemogi and cut inside to blast a
powerful left footed shot past the keeper. The goal was Harewood's ninth on the season.
Alkoptan would strike again just before half as Freshman Kyle Billington slipped Grisham
beyond the back line. Grisham would find Freshman Avery Shepard eight yards out and
his shot was cleared off the line. Grisham would get up and find Alkpotan at the
back post to make it 3-0. The goal was the second of the game and season for Alkoptan
and Grisham's second assist for the game and fifth on the season.
The second half would see Alkoptan add to his already stellar performance and point
total as he slipped Shepard through the back line 20 minutes into the half and this
time Shepard wold make sure it hit the net. The goal was the freshman's second on
the season and would be the final goal of the game. With the final score 4-0, Junior
Goalkeeper Dennis Kramer would get his second consecutive win and second consecutive
shutout.
Southern Poly travels to Lee University on Saturday October 15th to visit the always tough Flames. The game is scheduled to kick off
at 7pm.
