Hornets Get 5-0 Road Victory Versus Oakwood University
After cancelling two matches due to weather, SPSU Men's Soccer had to pick up another match just to get to 15 regular season contests for the 2010 season. The match that was picked up was against Oakwood University, a second year program out of Huntsville, AL. "We were very grateful that they decided to play us at the last minute," said Southern Poly Head Soccer Coach, Kom Momeni.
As the game started, the Hornets were in complete control as they scored three goals before half time. The game winner was scored by Emeka Maduka, who finished the game with one goal and two assists. The other two scorers in the first half were Sean Grisham, who leads the Hornets with eight goals on the season, and Kouami d'Almeida.
The second half started with a goal within two minutes, by d'Almeida from a feed from Maduka. "I am glad that we got the fourth goal so early in the second half. This allowed our reserves to get some much deserved playing time," said Momeni.
The majority of the second half was played by the younger Hornet players. They continued their dominance with many close chances on goal. The fifth and final goal was scored by Freshman, Matthew Herget. The shutout was the Hornets seventh of the season and was shared by Senior Goalkeepers, Eric Ati and Ryan Black.
The Hornets go into Saturday's (October, 23rd) contest versus Brewton-Parker College with a 7-3-2 record. Kick off is set for 3pm at Nuesoft Technologies Field.
