 Southern Poly Wins Home Opener

In convincing fashion, Southern Poly won their season home opener against Atlanta Christian College with a score of 11-0.  They got their first win of the 2010 season, after opening up at Bethel University (TN) and coming away with a 0-0 draw.

The game winner was scored by Junior, Sean Grisham in the 8th minute and was assisted by Junior, Chris Szalwinski.  Szalwinski beat his defender on the left side and crossed a ball to the back post where Grisham coolly placed it first time in the far corner.

 From there, the scoring continued with goals by Junior, Kouami d’Almeida (3), Grisham (2), Junior, Diego Nicholson (2), Sophomore, Emeka Maduka (2), Senior, Steve Herget (1), Freshman, Brian Marshall (1) and assists by Senior Christian Castillo (4), Szalwinski (2), Junior, Rani Alkoptan (2), Grisham (1), Senior, Abdi Hassan (1) and Freshman, Tyler Henry (1).

The back line of Daniel Oyugah, Stephen Herget, Gabe Warner and Abdi Hassan, once again, held their opponents scoreless.  This is also the second shutout for Senior GK, Eric Ati who split time with Captain, Ryan Black, in goal.

The Southern Poly Men’s soccer team hosts TN-Wesleyan for their next game Tuesday, August 31st at 5pm at Nuesoft Technologies Field.
