AUM Hands SPSU Third Lose of Season, 2-1 in Overtime

For the fifth time this season, the Southern Poly Men's Soccer Team went into overtime, and for the second time this year, they lost.  The Senators finished off the match in the 92 minute, when for the second time in the match, an SPSU defender missed cleared a ball that resulted to an AUM goal. "We made two careless mistakes in the back and got punished for it," said Hornet Head Coach, Kom Momeni.

The scoring started off with SPSU Forward, Emeka Maduka in the 41st minute.  He chipped the Senator Goalkeeper, after a give-and-go with Junior, Midfielder, Rani Alkoptan.  It is Maduka's fourth goal of the season and Alkoptan's third assist.

In the second half, Maduka's threat on the AUM goal continued with three one on one's with the GK.  He missed the frame on two of them and got a corner kick out of the last.

"If he scores one of the three chances, things would be much different," added Momeni.

AUM equalized the match in the 59th minute when a miss-clearance found the foot of AUM, Forward, Gunnar Kristinsson who beat Hornet GK, Eric Ati with a powerful shot that went between his legs.  The game winner had the same feel, as a poor defensive header landed right in front of Kristinsson, who blasted a shot off the post and into the net.

The Hornets are now 3-3-2 and start Conference play with a match in Franklin Spring, GA against Emmanuel College on Oct. 9th at 4pm.
