Senior Eric Ati Awarded NSCAA 1st Team All-American
After another stellar year in goal for the Southern Poly Men’s Soccer team, Senior Eric Ati was awarded 2010 NSCAA/Performance Subaru Men's NAIA First Team All-American. It is the first such award for any Southern Poly player and a very deserving one for Ati. “Eric has been great for us since he came here four years ago. His leadership on the field is backed up by his play. He is certainly one of, if not, the best goalie in the country and I’m glad he got recognized,” said Head Coach Kom Momeni.
Ati played in 20 games in the 2010 season recording 10 shutouts, 15 goals against and a 0.75 goals against average. For his career, Ati holds every GK record at SPSU, which includes most games started with 69, most shutouts with 29, and lowest shutout percent with a 0.420. He has led the Southern States Athletic Conference in lowest goals against average all four years and has a 0.967 GAA for his collegiate career. He has twice been on the SSAC All-Conference team and was also awarded NAIA All-American 2nd team this year.
“Eric was the first player in Southern Poly’s short history to be recruited out of High School and compete all four years of his eligibility here. He has been here from the inaugural season and has certainly made his mark upon this program. He will be sorely missed next year and leaves a big hole for the coaching staff and current goalies to fill,” added Momeni.
