Mamadou Danso Named SSAC Defensive Player of the Week

October 20, 2008

Mamadou "Futty" Danso named SSAC Defensive Player of the Week.  For the second time in 2008, Danso has been honored by the Southern States Athletic Conference by a Player of the Week award.  The first time, he was the "Offensive Player of the Week" for a four goal, one assist performance against Faulkner University.  This time, he was named the "Defensive Player of the Week".

During the week of Oct. 13-19, Danso made his first two starts as a Center Back for the Hornets.  He helped SPSU to a 2-0 record for the week and held both teams (Southern Wesleyan University and TN Wesleyan College) to only one shot on goal, respectively.  He also scored two goals on set pieces and another goal during the regular run of play.  His most important play of the week came when he won the ball in midfield and connected on the game winning assist to Sean Grisham, versus Southern Wesleyan.

"This just shows Futty's versatility," said  Coach Momeni.  "He leads our conference in scoring as a forward and then goes and starts in the back line, where still scores three goals and gets a game winning assist.  He is truly a special player".
