All Conference Selections for Danso and Grant

November 17, 2008

As the 2008 season wrapped up for the SPSU Hornets, two players received recognition from the Southern States Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Coaches. Sophomore, Forward and Back, Mamadou "Futty" Danso and Senior, Midfielder, James Grant were honored for their play as they helped set records for the young Hornet's soccer team. "In only our second year, we managed to have the top scorer (Danso) and playmaker (Grant) in the league. We are very happy for both guys as they deserve these awards. They have not only helped set high standards for our program, but have helped us win 12 matches this year", said Coach Momeni.

Danso was voted as the "Player of the Year" and "Offensive Player of the Year" in the SSAC, while capturing is second straight "First Team All-Conference Selection". He lead the SSAC in total Goals, Shots, and Shots on Goal and per game. He finished the season with 19 goals, 6 assists, and 44 points. The amazing statistic is that he only played 14 matches and started seven of them. Equally as amazing is the fact that he played as a Center Back the last seven matches of the season.

Grant was named to the "Second Team All-SSAC". This is the second time he has received a "Second Team All Conference" Award. The first time was as a player from Western Arizona Junior College. He finished his senior year with 5 goals and 11 assists, while leading the SSAC in assists per game.
