MARIETTA, Ga. – After winning two matches last week by a combined score of 12-0, the Southern Polytechnic State University men’s soccer team moved up one spot to seventh nationally, according to the latest NAIA Men's Soccer Coaches' Top 25 Poll that was released late Tuesday.
Southern Polytechnic, which received 469 points in this week’s poll, began the season rated third and then climbed up to No. 2, its highest ranking in the six-year history of the program. Defending national champion Lindsey Wilson College, with a perfect 7-0-0 overall record and 591 points, remains the top-rated squad in the country, followed by the University of Rio Grande (5-1-0, 563 points), Auburn University at Montgomery (4-1-1, 547), Belhaven University (7-0-0, 534), the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (4-0-2, 514) and Concordia University Irvine (5-1-1, 507). The Hornets, along with Auburn Montgomery and Belhaven, are members of the Southern States Athletic Conference. Rounding out the Top 10 are MidAmerica Nazarene University (4-0-3, 449 points), Columbia (Mo.) College (4-0-2, 445) and Oklahoma Wesleyan University (6-0-1, 428). SPSU opens SSAC play this Friday when hosting No. 14-ranked University of Mobile. The game is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Nuesoft Technologies Field.
