MARIETTA, Ga. – After beginning Southern States Athletic Conference play with two wins last week, the Southern Polytechnic State University men’s soccer team remained at No. 7 nationally, according to the latest NAIA Men's Soccer Coaches' Top 25 Poll that was released late Tuesday.
Southern Polytechnic, which received 423 points in this week’s poll, began the season rated No. 3 and then climbed up to second – its highest ranking in the six-year history of the program. Southern Poly dropped to eighth following a loss but has been at No. 7 the past two weeks. Defending national champion Lindsey Wilson College, with a perfect 9-0-0 overall record and 591 points, remains the top-rated squad in the country, followed by the University of Rio Grande (7-1-0, 505 points), Auburn University at Montgomery (6-1-1, 487), Belhaven University (9-0-0, 483), the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (5-0-2, 462) and Concordia University Irvine (6-1-1, 450). The Hornets, along with Auburn Montgomery and Belhaven, are members of the SSAC. Rounding out the Top 10 are Columbia (Mo.) College (6-0-2, 401), MidAmerica Nazarene University (6-0-4, 397 points) and Oklahoma Wesleyan University (8-0-1, 388). The entire poll can be viewed at naia.org.
SPSU is on the road this Friday to play a SSAC game against fourth-ranked and unbeaten Belhaven in Jackson, Miss., at 2:30 p.m. Central time (3:30 p.m. Eastern).
