Certificate in US Studies
For International Students only.
Students completing the certificate will have studied US culture, language, and business in a focused manner. The certificate will provide International Students with an additional program that can enhance their employability when they return to their country of origin.
Requirements for Certificate
A total of 15 hours chosen from the following areas / courses. At least one course must be chosen from each of the three areas. Courses used by the student to meet core requirements may not also be used toward the certificate.
Area A: U. S. English Language
- ENGL 1101: English Composition I
- ENGL 1102: English Composition II
- COMM 2400: Public Speaking
- TCOM 2000: Business Communication
- other communications skills courses as individually appropriate and approved by the U.S. Certificate Coordinator
Area B: U.S. Culture
- ENGL 2130: American Literature
- ARTS 2901-2901: Special Topics (must be US Art, Drama, and/or Music)
- POLS 1101: American Government
- HIST 2111: United States History to 1877
- HIST 2112: United States History since 1877
- other upper division Culture, Arts, Political Science, and History courses as individually appropriate and approved by the U.S. Certificate Coordinator
Area C. U.S. Business and Technology
- HIST 3250: History of American Technology
- HIST 3260: History of American Science and Medicine
- HIST 3901-3903: Special Topics (if topic is related to the US only)
- MGNT 3145: Legal Environment
- various other TCOM, MGN, or IT/CS courses as individually appropriate and approved by the the U.S. Certificate Coordinator
