The International Studies Major
"The International Studies Program is great because it helps to give students a broader, interdisciplinary understanding of the rapidly changing world around them. Students gain knowledge of different cultures, languages, and peoples. The classes are small and the professors are very helpful. Come local, leave global!" IS Capstone Class of 2009
S.P.S.U.’s major in International Studies prepares students well for the global
marketplace and society of the future. Indeed, whether people work within or
outside the United States, many positions today require excellent communication
skills, informed experience with given areas of technology, and cross-cultural
competencies. As the world grows ever smaller, these skill sets will become ever
more in demand.
Professionals in diverse fields use these abilities to analyze, communicate about,
and work comfortably within the infrastructures of global business. By developing
a broad knowledge base, Southern Polytechnic graduates serve as critical resources
for Georgia’s businesses, as well as a whole host of alternative career centers.
Indeed, in a recent poll, the state’s information technology companies projected
a “major push into international markets.” These and other key employers have
expressed support for this novel degree program – unique to Southern Polytechnic.
To compete effectively on a global scale, corporations will turn to employees with a
solid grasp of these various skills sets. And, our International Studies graduates will
be among the first to respond….
Possible career fields include: international business, the travel industry, transportation, government, non-governmental organizations, public policy, and intelligence. This degree is excellent preparation for law school and other advanced degrees.
