SPSU ADOPTING CMS FOR ITS WEB SITE
As many of you are aware, the SPSU web site is not the greatest in the world. CSE
has worked hard to make its web site informative and up-to-date and, by and large,
I believe we have done a fair job. However, given the importance of the web in our
communications with a range of different audiences, ranging from prospective students,
potential employers, alumni, current students, and so on, it is imperative that this
be extended to the entire SPSU web presence. I am therefore extremely pleased to
announce that SPSU has adopted a content management system to help it keep its web
presence as informative and up-to-date as possible. We are currently working on porting
our current web pages to the new system, in the process cleaning up many of our pages.
In order to see what the new web presence will look like, go to www.spsu.edu. When
you look at it, please bear in mind that we are still in the process of porting information
and that the web site is far from complete.
CSE HOSTS ATLANTA CODE CAMP
On
Saturday, June 25th, SPSU was the venue for the Atlanta code camp. Code camps are free community‐focused
events by and for the .NET developer community. The Atlanta Code Camp draws upon the
expertise of local and regional developers, architects, and experts who come together
to share their real world experiences, lessons learned, best practices, and general
knowledge with other interested individuals. The event attracted well over 300 attendees,
including some CSE students, and some 55 training sessions were given. I want to
express my appreciation to Dr Jon Preston, who worked tirelessly to bring this event
to campus.
SPSU INTELLIGENT ROBOTICS HONORS CLASS VISITS WHEELER HIGH SCHOOL
On
May 11, 2011, The SPSU Honors Independent Study Intelligent Robotics class, which was led by Dr
CC Hung of CSE, paid a visit to Wheeler High School to talk about robots. Luke
Isler, Lei Wang, Sarah Pace, and Dr. Chih-Cheng Hung were hosted at Wheeler by Dr.
Dawn Adams, the Wheeler Internship Director, Mr Al George, the Wheeler robotics teacher
Mr. Al George. I wanted to express my appreciation to the CSE team for their efforts
to make Wheeler high school students aware of the great work that students do at SPSU.
BOBBIE USES ROBOTICS IN OUTREACH TO SANDERS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Dr Hung is not the only faculty member who is using robotics in an outreach effort.
Dr Patrick Bobbie started a project with Sanders Elementary School in Austell to
use robotics to raise the awareness on the part of elementary school students of science,
technology, engineering and computing. The project builds on the experience that
Dr Bobbie has gained with similar projects both here and in Ghana. There is more
information about this project, including some pictures, at
http://cse.spsu.edu/pbobbie/NAROSS/naross.html.
JACK ZHENG AND WIFE WELCOME BABY
On June 15 th, our new professor in IT, Dr Jack Zheng, and his wife Wenyi welcomed
a new baby boy, Roger. Please join me in congratulating Jack and Wenyi.
