Actions:

 

1.   The meeting was called to order by Chair Russ Hunt.

 

2.   The committee discussed possible meeting schedules. The committee has three officially scheduled meeting times of September 5, October 3, and November 21. It was decided that more meetings were needed. Russ agreed to create a schedule and send it out to members.

 

3.   The committee discussed results from the Graduate Programs Retreat, including which items should be addressed this semester and who were interested in working on those particular items. The initial arrangements were:

 

Graduate Faculty Support: Cheryl Duggins, Gouranga Banik, Rich Halstead-Nussloch

 

Graduate Curriculum: Mary McShane-Vaughn, Renee Butler, Rich Halstead-Nussloch, Mark Nunes

 

Resources and Services for Grad Students: Sandra Vasa-Sideris, Dawn Ramsey, Nikki Palamiotis, Rich Halstead-Nussloch, Elizabeth Keathley.

4.   Alan Gabrielli pointed out the need to revise the Graduate Programs Policy and Procedure document to include the Director of Graduate Studies as an ex-officio member of this committee. The committee agreed to review and revise the P&P.

 

Discussions:

 

1.   There was a discussion regarding the T1, T2, T3 faculty categories and workload. At the end of Spring semester 2006, the GPC recommended that the issue be submitted to the general faculty for comment. The on-line forum conducted that semester indicated significantly polarized views on the matter. Zvi Szafran reported that the Weekly Blab 1.3 e-mail newsletter contains links to two proposals for resolving the issue. Those links are included here for reference.
