The Southern Poly Hornets Men's Soccer teams gets it's second victory of the season by defeating TN Wesleyan 3-1. Playing their third straight match on the road, the Hornets fell behind in the first half, when the home team was granted a penalty kick in the 43rd minute. Carl Deno converted the penalty for the Bulldogs. Throughout the half, the Hornets gave the Bulldogs defense fits, but could not capitalize any of the four shots on frame into goals.
The Hornets came out very strong in the second half and played much of it in the Bulldogs end. Midway through the half, Freshman, Rani Alkoptan (2 goals, 3 assists) slipped Junior, James Grant (2 goals, 1 assist) a through ball in behind the Bulldog defense, which he easily tucked away. Later on, Alkoptan got a goal of his own, which was assisted by Freshman Defender, David Rhodes. Rhodes headed back a ball that was cleared by the Bulldogs off of a corner kick. The ball found Alkoptan all alone with the Corry Ferryl, the Bulldogs Goal Keeper, as his defense was attempting to leave Alkoptan offsides. The final goal of the match was provide by Mamadou "Futty" Danso (5 goals, 1 assist) in the 87th minute. He finished off a penalty kick that he was awarded when Ferryl came out and knocked down Danso, in the penalty box, as the were going for the same ball.
"We are glad to have gone 1-1-1 in our first ever three match away from home series. These young guys showed a lot of character and had some good results on the road", said Coach Momeni.
The Hornets will play their second home match of their inaugural season Tuesday September 4th at 5pm versus TN Temple.
