The Hornets came out Sunday determined to go into Wednesday's Conference game with a win, and they did just that. Mamadou "Futty" Danso was back on the score sheet with a goal within the first 4 minutes. The two forwards combined magnificently which led to the Hornets opener. Junior Dustin Harrison dribbled past two Springhill players before slipping the ball into Danso's path, and "the boy can do no wrong", added Assistant Coach Sammeroff after the game. A cool, composed finish put SPSU one goal to the good.
At the 28th minute mark, another mazy run by Captain Harrison, led to the Hornet's second after he was brought down in the box. He would step off the field for treatment, whilst Danso would calmly send the keeper the wrong way and finished the PK to add his tally to 16 goals in 14 matches, and four goals in the last two matches. " Danso has been showing great form of late, he has been having a lot of success in front of the goal in the last two matches, and we hope his form will continue in our big conference matches coming up", added Head Coach Kom Momeni.
The Hornets defense again played a vital role in the day's events, and recorder their 4th clean sheet of the season, 3 of which have come in their last 4 games. Sophomore Morgan Yarbrough, Freshman Casey Freeman, Freshman Daniel Oyugah, and Junior Alex Valdez have been instrumental at the back, only allowing a handful of shots on goal. Keepers Eric Ati, and Ryan Black have also done their job keeping both Springhill and Trevecca at bay. "We have now gone over 200 minutes without conceding a goal and for any starting program this is a massive achievement. I'm proud of our youngsters and extremely pleased we are heading in the right direction, both for this year and for the future of our program." A very pleased Kom Momeni complimenting his players after the victory.
The Hornets take to the road Wednesday, where they will try to overcome last week's conference loss and to help stake a claim into the conference tournament.
Come support the Hornets on Nuesoft Technology Field on Friday Oct. 19th versus Emmanuel College, where they will be aiming to Win their last home game, and hopefully take a position in the conference tournament; a massive achievement for any starting program.
