After a tough SSAC Conference loss on Monday afternoon, the Hornets were back on Nuesoft Technology Field to prove a point, and that they did within the first ten minutes. Two early goals from Mamadou “Futty” Danso put his tally to 14 goals in 13 games.“Futty was looking sharp in the warm-up, and he proved to be clinical” said Assistant Coach Paul Sammeroff.
The first goal came from a corner, when James Grant served in a great ball and Danso rose above the Trevecca defense to send a great header into the back of the net in the first 90 seconds.Eight minutes later, Danso latched onto a poor clearance and quick reactions got his second of the match.
The Hornets looked solid defensively allowing no shots on goal in the first half and the second half they kept up their performance and on the 58th minute mark, Dustin Harrison scored on a great individual effort, taking his tally to five for the season.
In the last thirty seconds, two substitutes combined, freshman Tristan Butcher found freshman Moussa Sinayoko who sent a rocket past the Trevecca keeper to send the home fans into ecstasy.
“We are delighted to be 3-1-1 in our last five games. We had to get back on track after losing key players in the middle of our schedule, and I think we are doing just that.We have two big Conference games coming up and, hopefully, two good results will put us into the Conference tournament in just our first year.”A delighted Coach Sammeroff added after the game.
