October 4th - Marietta GA
The Hornets came into today’s match with a 2-0-1 record in the last three matches and were looking to extend their unbeaten streak to four. However, the Reinhardt College Eagles had a different idea. Within the first 15 minutes, the Hornets, namely Dustin Harrison and Futty Danso, created a couple of good chances yet were scored on against the run of play by Joseph Tetrault, who slotted a first time shot in the Hornets side netting from about 19 yards out. The score in the first half was 1-0.
The second half started much like the first, as the Hornets pressed and applied much pressure. While creating some good scoring opportunities, the Hornets were counter-attacked and put in a 2-0 deficit when a ball was played in behind their backs, to an on rushing Spencer Davidson who coolly finished it.
The final 15 minutes of the match belonged to SPSU as they pressed to equalize the match. Futty Danso brought them a bit closer when Daniel Brown flicked on a header with less than 8 minutes left in the match. Danso let the ball bounce once and then smashed it to the upper panel from about 10 yards out to get his team leading 12th goal of the season.
With time running out, Freshmen SPSU Forward, Jacob Morrow had a clear path to goal, but was tackled from behind in the box, and the Hornets were granted a corner kick. This was the final chance for SPSU, as Reinhardt held tight and won the match 2-1.
“This was a very disappointed result for us, as we had a chance to climb the Conference Standings ladder, but failed. Reinhardt played well, and we could not match their effort. We now have to win our final two conference matches to qualify for our conference tournament,” said Coach Momeni.
