The Hornet’s Men’s Soccer Team got a 2-1 victory on the road versus SSAC Conference opponent Shorter College. Coming off of a 1-1 draw against SWU, the Hornets again got on the scoreboard first, compliments of Futty Danso and Dustin Harrison. Against SWU, Danso fed the ball to a wide open Harrison who slotted it home for a 1-0 lead. This time, Harrison gave Danso the ball at the eight minute mark, who beat two players on the left hand side and shot the ball near post.
The match remained 1-0 until the 62 minute, when Danso found Junior Midfielder, James Grant on the left hand side about 40 yards from goal. Grant beat three players on his way to Hawks goal. He shot the ball near post and beat the GK, who thought he would serve it to one of his teammates crashing the goal.
From that point on, the Hornets bunkered in and weathered a Shorter attack that saw most of the possession. At the 87th minute, a diagonal ball was misplayed by Freshman Hornet Back, Kasey Freeman who was whistled for handling the ball. The free kick was sent in, and Hornet GK, Eric Ati, was bumped as he tried to catch the ball. The ball was mis-handled and put away by Angel Damien. One minute later, Ati made the save of the match as he stopped a point blank shot from the Hawks.
The Hornets, 4-6-2, who are 2-2-2 in the conference, play La Grange on the road Thursday October 4th.
