Friday September 18th
Savannah, GA
Southern Poly came into today's game with an
unbeaten record of 4-0. They would be looking to continue their
success and fortune; however, with a few injuries and a last minute
penalty kick call, they would leave with just a tie.
The game started well for the Hornets. They were on
the offensive but couldn't seem to weed out a clear chance on goal.
On the half hour mark, Senior, Scott Anderson got the ball rolling
with a great strike from the edge of the box. Freshman, Jack
Skinner played a good ball in behind the SCAD defense and Freshman
Emeka Maduka did well to shield the ball and roll it back to
Anderson. It was to be his third goal of the year. Just
before the first half ended, the game would get a little messy, and
an off-the ball incident saw Richard Langthorne for SCAD get sent
off.
The second half would see a spirited 10 man SCAD
fight for every ball. They were causing problems for the Hornets,
and with 10 minutes to go they were given a free-kick 20 yards out
from goal. Dan Fadida would score from
the direct free-kick and the game was tied 1-1. The game's
excitement was just getting started. SPSU started to apply a lot of
pressure and on the 88:36, SPSU Senior, Felipe Lopez seemed to get
the game winner for the second game in session, with an absolute
screamer from 35 yards out. Sophomore Chris Szalwinski passed the
ball to Lopez, and he flicked the ball up to himself, and on the
half volley put the ball in the upper ninety.
The game was not done just yet and with less than a
minute to go, a long ball was hit into the SPSU's box and out of
nowhere, and the home team was awarded a PK.
Dan Fadida would score from the resulting
PK, and the game would go into overtime.
The Hornets have won
every OT competition they have been in this season, and just could
not seem to put the ball in the back of the net. After some
great opportunities, two from Freshman, Forward, Emeka Maduka who
missed multiple chances inside the 12. The game would end 2-2, and
the Hornets remained unbeaten, with a record of 4-0-1.
The Hornets look to
Wednesday to increase their winning ways against Conference Rivals
Shorter in Rome, Ga. at 4pm.
