For the second time in its
program’s history, the Men’s Soccer team of Southern Polytechnic
State University has been voted one of the top 25 teams in the
country. The NAIA Division 1 National Top 25 Rankings came out
Tuesday evening and posted SPSU at the #18 spot. This is the second
time SPSU has been ranked as high as 18 in the nation in the past
two seasons.
SPSU has started off to a stellar
3-0 start with wins over Lee University, #23William Carey and
Tennessee Wesleyan. In the three road wins, SPSU combined for 9
goals for and only 3 goals against. Senior midfielder Felipe Lopez
(Miami, FL) leads the team in points with 1 goal and 4 assists and
senior midfielder Scott Anderson (St. Simon’s Island, Georgia) has
produced two game winning goals including an overtime goal against
William Carey.
SPSU has its first home game of
the year this Saturday, September 12th at 4pm against
Division II powerhouse Lincoln Memorial.
