For the first time in it's brief history, Southern Polytechnic
State University Men's Soccer has cracked the Top 15 in the NAIA
National Rankings. The latest rankings have placed SPSU as
#14.
Since the start of the program in 2007, the Hornets have been
making strides toward national recognition. In their second
game ever, they tied, then #6 Lee University, 2-2 at Lee
University. In 2008, as they went 12-5-1, they beat the #16
and #14 teams in the country and lost to the eventual National
Champions, Bethel (TN) University 0-1. Their highest ranking
in 2008 was #18.
Now, with an impressive 4-0 start, the Hornets have finally
started making some noise. "I think the difference is that
we are learning how to win. We have won three hard fought
games by one goal. The last two years, we would have lost or
tied those games. This year, our team just finds ways to
win. The important thing to consider is that it is still
early and that there are many tough challenges ahead, " said Head
Coach Kom Momeni.
To keep their winning ways intact, Momeni believes that they need
to stay free of injury and keep doing the little things right.
Only time will tell, but for now, the Hornets are proud of their
accomplishments. "Being on the very first Southern Poly
team," said Junior, GK, Eric Ati, "and seeing how far we have
come...I am really proud of our guys."

Sophomore, CM, Diego Nicholson has been a major key
to SPSU's early success
