Marietta, GA
Southern Poly came into today’s
game with an overall record of 8-0-1 and 3-0 in the SSAC. They have
been impressive in their last four games recording four wins (2 SSAC
wins), four clean sheets and scoring 10 goals. Today they looked to
continue their winning streak against visiting Emmanuel College who
were 2-4-3 and 0-3-1 in the SSAC.
The home team got off to a great
start when a whipped in corner from Senior, and Conference assist
leader, Felipe Lopez found Freshman, Emeka Maduka, who volley home
neatly from six yards out. This would prove to be the game
winner for the young Nigerian forward, and his third for the
season, all of which coming in the SSAC. The second goal would come
before the second half when Senior Scott Anderson, who has been
instrumental throughout the season for the Hornets, found Sophomore
Sean Grisham at the edge of the box. Grisham who scored five goals
his first season got off the mark today, and he did so in style. He
controlled the ball well and rifled a shot upper ninety scoring his
first of the season and Southern Poly’s second of the match.
It was another clean sheet for GK
Eric Ati, who was also celebrating his birthday, and recorded his
sixth shut out of the season. He came off early in the second half, allowing
Junior, GK, Ryan Black to finish the game. “Eric has been solid for us
all year round, but it’s not just been him. The whole team has been
defensively sound from top to bottom. It’s becoming an exciting
year and we hope this will continue throughout the remainder of the
season,” said Head Coach Kom Momeni.
The Hornet’s were not done at two,
and both seniors would combine to cap off another great victory for
the home side. Lopez would receive the ball wide left; find Scott
Anderson at the edge of the box, who struck home a wonderful
effort. This would be Lopez’s eighth assist of the year, keeping
him at the top of the SSAC leader board. This would be Anderson’s
fifth goal of the season and he remains top of the SSAC charts in
game winning goals tied with Maduka. “Being a senior you have to
help lead your team both on and off the field, and both Felipe and
Scott do this. The both have great GPA’s and have done a
fantastic job on the field. They are going to be very hard to replace,
but this is part and parcel of college soccer”, Momeni added after
the game.
Southern Poly would end the game
3-0, improving their record to 9-0-1 and 4-0 in the SSAC. They have
now not conceded a goal for over 471 minutes, a quite remarkable
achievement.
