Nathan Teymer
Head Coach
Coach
Teymer enters his fifth season at the helm of the Hornets women’s
basketball program. The four previous seasons have seen the Lady
Hornets move from the bottom of the Southern States Athletic
conference to one of the top teams in the league.
The 2008-2009 season proved to be the best in the
program's history. The Hornets finished with an overall record of
19-13 and tied for fifth place in the Southern State Athletic
Conference.
The 2007-08 campaign saw the Hornets
finish with an overall record of 18-13 (tied school record)
including a fifth place mark of 12-8 in the Southern State Athletic
conference. The Hornets also advanced to the semifinals of the
conference tournament for the second straight season.
The 2006-07 season was the breakthrough
year for the Hornets. They set a school record for wins with an
18-14 record and finished third in conference play with a record of
12-8. The Hornets also recorded their first post season win and
advanced to the semifinals of the conference tournament.
In 2005-06, Teymer’s first season, the
Hornets posted a 5-22 overall record and finished 10th in conference
play with a record of 4-16. The season proved to be one where no
player started every game and only one player played in all 27
contests. Nine Hornets missed a total of 76 games for various
reasons. Despite the 22 losses the Hornets were very competitive
losing 11 games by 10 points or less, 5 of those games by 3 points
or less, and 3 games in overtime.
Teymer brings with him a strong academic/athletic philosophy. Teymer
says,
“For
our team to excel on the basketball floor we need to have them excel
in the classroom as well. Southern Polytechnic State University is
an outstanding institution of higher learning and if we recruit
players that have the ability, desire, and work ethic to graduate
from this university then we will also have a basketball team that
will be very hard to beat.”
Prior to his arrival on the Southern Polytechnic campus coach Teymer
spent two seasons at Shorter College (Rome, Georgia) as assistant
men’s basketball coach. Teymer also had assistant coaching stints at
Georgia Southwestern State University (Americus, Georgia) and Grand
View College (Des Moines, Iowa).
Teymer was also a member of the Grand View College basketball team
from 1995 to 1999. Coach Teymer received his Bachelor of Arts degree
in Secondary Education from Grand View in 1999. In 2002, he received
his Master’s of Education in Health and Physical Education from
Georgia Southwestern.
