Basketball - Women Doss Named Assistant Coach at Austin Peay Marietta, GA. - Southern Polytechnic University women’s basketball assistant coach Laphelia Doss has resigned in order to accept an assistant coaching position at Division I Austin Peay State University located in Clarksville, TN, Coach Nathan Teymer announced Thursday. Doss, a native of Franklin, KY came to SPSU in August of 2007 and played and integral role in helping the Lady Hornets tied a school records for wins with 18. “Coach Doss did an outstanding job for us and will truly be missed,” Teymer said. “This is a wonderful opportunity for her and I know that Austin Peay has made an excellent choice.” Prior to SPSU, Doss spent one season at James Madison University and four seasons at Eastern Kentucky University. Doss was also a four-year stand-out player on the Eastern Kentucky basketball team. During her playing career, Doss helped lead Eastern Kentucky to three Ohio Valley Conference championships, During her junior campaign she guided EKU to the school’s first-ever NCAA tournament appearance. She was also a two-time All-OVC First Team selection and was named to the All-Freshman Team. Doss holds school records for career rebounds (1,027), single-season rebounds (310) and single game rebounds (26). She finished ranked tenth on the all-time scoring list with 1,378 points. Doss is the only player in Eastern Kentucky history to score over 1,000 points and grab over 1,000 rebounds A national search to find Doss’ replacement will begin immediately.
