Basketball - Women Assistant Coach
8/20/2007 Marietta, GA- Southern Polytechnic State University head coach Nathan Teymer announced today that Laphelia Doss has joined the Lady Hornet Basketball staff as an assistant coach. Doss spent last season serving as an assistant coach at James Madison University. “Our basketball family is very fortunate to have Laphelia Doss on our staff, “ head coach Nathan Teymer said, “She brings a great deal of experience and success as an assistant and as a player. I am really excited about having Coach Doss on our Staff.” Doss’ responsibilities at SPSU will include: recruiting coordinator, academic coordinator, team travel, video exchange, on-the-floor coaching, public relations, and director of camps. Prior to James Madison, Doss spent four seasons at Eastern Kentucky University serving as an assistant coach. Doss was also a four-year stand-out player on the Eastern Kentucky basketball team. During her playing career, Doss helped lead Eastern Kentucky to three Ohio Valley Conference championships, During her junior campaign she guided EKU to the school’s first-ever NCAA tournament appearance. She was also a two-time All-OVC First Team selection and was named to the All-Freshman Team. Doss holds school records for career rebounds (1,027), single-season rebounds (310) and single game rebounds (26). She finished ranked tenth on the all-time scoring list with 1,378 points. Doss is the only player in Eastern Kentucky history to score over 1,000 points and grab over 1,000 rebounds. A native of Franklin, KY, Doss received her bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism from Eastern Kentucky in 1998. In 2003, she earned a master’s degree in sports administration from EKU.
