Jeffrey Jones
Head Basketball Coach
Prior to arriving to SPSU,
Jones spent five seasons with Kennesaw State University as an assistant
coach. He was apart of the coaching staff that led Kennesaw State to the 2004 NCAA Division II National Championship.
Before going to Kennesaw State Coach Jones was an assistant for two seasons at St. John’s River Community College in Palatka, Florida where he also served as the director of student activities.
Before going to SJRCC, Jones was an assistant at David H. Hickman High School in his hometown of Columbia, Missouri. For three seasons, he served in the same capacity at Moberly (MO) High School from 1993-95.
Jones began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Missouri Valley College, an NAIA school in Marshall, Missouri during the 1990-91 season. An active member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches, Black Coaches Association and Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity, Jones also works at several camps and clinics around the country throughout the year.
After playing two seasons at Pittsburg (Kan.) State University, Jones received his bachelor’s degree in communications/sports administration at Lindenwood College in St. Louis, Missouri.
Jones and his wife, Teala, have four children – Tearra (20), Kristopher (18), Ashley (17), and Jordan (15). The Jones’ family makes their home in
Acworth, Georgia.
SPSU Achievements In just two
seasons, Coach Jones has posted two 20-plus win season . Jones surpassed any
first year coach in SPSU history by gaining the most wins by a first
year head coach(23-11) . The Hornets made a "Sweet Sixteen" appearance in the NAIA
National Tournament also defeating the #2 seed in the first round. A
feat that hasn't been done since 1995. The Hornets posted a 22-9
record
last season. December 7, 2006 victory over Shorter College
marked the most wins in the first two years of any head coach in SPSU
history. Coach Jones has coached three NAIA All-Americans and two SSAC
All Academic Team members. Victory
Sports Network rated Southern Poly's 2006 recruiting class as the 5th
best in the country. SPSU was selected as a pre-season ranked 12th in
the country. Coach Jones and the Runnin' Hornets were selected as the #1
pre-season pick in the SSAC Conference.
