Matt Griffin (Fifth Season)
Head Coach
Matt Griffin is
entering his fifth year as head coach of the Hornets. Griffin a former player at Southern Poly is very familiar with the program having played on the team from 1996 through 1998.
In the 1998 Major League Baseball Draft, Griffin was picked by the Chicago Cubs and spent 2 years playing in the organization. During his first year, he played for the Williamsport Cubs in the New York Penn League as a middle infielder. His second season, he saw action as a utility infielder for the Lansing Lugnuts of the Midwest League.
Griffin’s resume as a collegiate player has him the holder of several Hornets hitting records. As the hornets single-season home run leader, he was named 2 time MVP and the Georgia Athletic Conference All-Conference shortstop in both his junior and senior campaign.
Griffin, 31, is originally from St. Marys, Pennsylvania, but grew up in Toccoa, GA. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Southern Polytechnic State University. He and his wife Leslie, a civil engineer at GeoSyntec Consultants, have two children, Grace (4) and Luke (2). The Griffin Family resides in Dallas.
