The number four nationally ranked Southern Poly
Hornets finished the regular season with a 12-0-1 overall record
(7-0 SSAC). They will enter the conference tournament as the #1 seed
and will host their opening round match.
The Hornets currently hold a 17 game regular season
unbeaten streak, and at one point during the season held opponents
scoreless for over 550 minutes. So far this season they have yet to
trail a match at any point.
Southern Poly has been lead offensively by Seniors
Scott Anderson, Felipe Lopez and Freshman Emeka Maduka. Anderson has
5 goals and 4 assists with four of his goals coming as game winners.
Lopez currently leads the SSAC in assists with 9 and has added 3
goals. Maduka currently leads the team in goals with 11 and points
with 23. Maduka has six game winning goals within SSAC games.
Defensively, Southern Poly is lead by Juniors, Eric
Ati and Steve Herget, Sophomore, Diego Nicholson and Freshman Marcos
Mendez. They have only allowed 7 goals in 13 games. Most
impressively, they have only conceded 1 goal against SSAC opponents.
Goalkeeper, Ati has started all 13 games for the Hornets and posts a
0.538 GAA, with 8 shutouts. Defenders Herget and Mendez have started
all 13 games in the back and have tallied 3 goals between them.
Nicholson has secured up the midfield with great defensive play and
consistently halting the oppositions attempt to counter attack.
Southern Poly hosts Faulkner University on Friday
Nov. 6 at 2pm at Nuesoft Technologies Field, for the opening round
of the SSAC Men's Soccer Tournament.
