Sick Leave Without Pay
Any employee unable to return to work after exhausting all accumulated
sick leave and accrued vacation leave may be granted sick leave without
pay for a period not to exceed one year. Furthermore, such approved sick
leave shall allow the employee the right to elect to continue his or her
group insurance benefits, and the institution will continue its share of
the cost for such period. All other benefits are prohibited which would
otherwise accrue to the employee.
Educational Leave Without Pay
Persons who have been continuously employed as full-time employees
at Southern Polytechnic State University for three (3) years or more may
be granted educational leave without pay for periods not to exceed one
year at a time for the purpose of encouraging professional development
(education, or working or consulting in industry). The employee will be
expected to exhaust all accrued vacation leave prior to any such leave
without pay. Any approved leave shall allow the employee the right to elect
to continue his or her group insurance benefits, and the institution will
continue its share of the cost for such period. All other benefits are
prohibited which would otherwise accrue to the employee.
Maternity Leave Without Pay
Disability due to pregnancy shall be considered as any other disability
and appropriate sick leave provisions of these policies shall apply.
Personal Leave Without Pay
Persons who have been continuously employed in a full-time position
at Southern Polytechnic State University for three (3) years or more may
be granted personal leave without pay for periods not to exceed one year.
The employee will be expected to exhaust all accrued vacation leave prior
to any such leave. An approved leave shall allow the employee the right
to elect to continue group insurance benefits. The employee shall pay the
employee's and institution's cost of all insurances. All other benefits
are prohibited which would otherwise accrue to the employee.
Approval Procedures
Leave without pay for faculty and administrators will require Board
of Regents approval. Internally, this will require recommendations of the
immediate supervisor and the appropriate administrator that reports to
the president. The president will make the decision as to any recommendations
to the Board of Regents.
All other employees will need the recommendation of the immediate supervisor to the appropriate administrator that reports to the president. This administrator will make the final decision.
