Background Graduation represents one of the most important customs of the university.  It is a time for graduates, relatives, faculty, and administrators to gather in celebration of the accomplishments of the graduating class.  This P&P indicates the number of ceremonies each year and provides guidelines for attendance by university personnel.

Ceremonies
Graduation ceremonies at Southern Polytechnic State University are held three times a year: at the end of fall, spring, and summer semesters.

Attendance by
Senior
Administrators
and Faculty
  1. All senior administrators are expected to attend all three ceremonies.
  2. All full-time faculty are expected to attend both fall and spring graduations.
  3. All full-time faculty are encouraged to attend summer graduation.
  4. All part-time faculty are permitted to attend any graduation along with full-time faculty if the part-time faculty are teaching at the university that term.
Note:
Any requests for exceptions to mandatory attendance must be submitted in writing to the individual’s supervisor before graduation.
