Student Life Committee

Background

This P&P provides the charge for the faculty Student Life Committee as set forth in the statutes (VI.A.2.a). The Student Life Committee is one of the standing committees of the faculty.

 


Membership

The Student Life Committee shall consist of four Faculty members elected at large by the Faculty, the Dean of Students, the Vice President for Academic Affairs, a staff member from the Business & Finance office, and six members of the Student Body. The six Student members shall consist of the Student Government Association (SGA) President, SGA Vice President, SGA Secretary/Treasurer, and three at-large Students appointed by the SGA President who are not SGA members.

 


Goals

The committee shall serve as a forum for the discussion of any pertinent student issue. It shall be the goal of the committee to facilitate positive communication & cooperation between SPSU students and faculty.

 


Budget Approvals

The Student Life Committee shall review and recommend approval of each of the budgets funded by mandatory student fees. The committee's comments and recommendations will be sent to the President of the University, the Vice President for Business and Finance, the Moderator of the Faculty Senate, and the President of the Student Government Association. The University President approves budgets that are funded by mandatory student fees with the recommendation of the Vice President for Student and Enrollment Services.

 


Judicial

The Committee may recommend standards for student behavior and suggest suitable penalties for infractions.

Operational

Oversight

The Committee shall also monitor the operational procedures of the student newspaper, yearbook, and radio station.  It may be involved in the selection or replacement of editors/managers as necessary.
