Georgia Game Jam

Georgia Game Jam

Games logoThe Georgia Fall Game Jam, held each September in coordination with other regional universities such as SCAD Atlanta and Georgia Tech, is a weekend immersion event that fosters innovation and experimentation.

Participants gather on campus at 5 p.m. on a Friday and spend the next 48 hours in teams building a game from scratch, fueled by creativity and passion for game development. The idea of the event is to foster creativity and collaboration while developing a game on a deadline.

Past game jam weekends at SPSU have generated over 40 games. Even for those students who aren’t too interested in game design, the event provides a chance for them to learn new skills while possibly making some new friends in the process.

This year’s event will be held Sept. 23 -25, and SPSU will again be the host site for the Game Jam.

SPSU has hosted five previous game jam weekends, each more popular than the last. The most recent, held in January and coordinated as part of the Global Game Jam, drew approximately 150 participants and made the SPSU venue one of the largest host sites in the world.

The university is expecting to have well over 100 participants in this fall’s event. The 2011 Georgia Fall Game Jam weekend is generously co-sponsored by Chick-fil-A and Kaneva, an Atlanta company that combines social networking with a 3-D virtual world.
