NOV. 12, 2013 – Aaron and Shaune Hankins are twin brothers from Hawkinsville, Ga., majoring in electrical engineering. With a sister enrolled at Kennesaw State University, there’s no way their parents could have afforded to finance three college educations independently. Luckily, the Hankins brothers arrived at SPSU this fall with the help of the Billy (’55) and Ila Pinyan Scholarship.
Alum Billy Pinyan graduated with an associate degree in industrial engineering and credits the education he received at Southern Tech for his success in the textile industry, which he served for 37 years. The scholarship was set up to benefit students from either Cherokee or Pulaski counties, where the Pinyans respectively grew up.
The Hankins brothers are juniors, having completed their first three years of college at Middle Georgia State College in Cochran, Ga. During the spring semester, they will begin co-op positions with Newcomb and Boyd, an Atlanta-based consulting and engineering firm. They hope to graduate in fall 2015 and get jobs at Warner Robins Air Force Base in middle Georgia.
