Student surveying/mapping team takes second place in national competition

APRIL 9, 2013 -- The five teams from around the United States that competed included California State University at Fresno; Utah Valley University in Orem; the University of Arkansas in Monticello; and New Mexico State University in Las Cruces. SPSU’s student Surveying and Mapping Program Competition Team – led by faculty advisor Prof. Daniel Branham – recently took second place in the National Society of Professional Surveyors 12th Annual Student Surveying Competition in Sandy, Utah.

The first was a quiz-bowl-style head-to-head challenge on the topics of surveying and mapping, surveying mathematics, boundary and Cadastral surveying, and measurement technology. The second element was a short promotional video created by the team to showcase each school’s surveying and mapping program.

Members of the team, which is sponsored by the SPSU Alumni Association, are: Blake Blevins, Calvin Johnson (team captain), Antonio Sample, Peter Sanchez and Stefka Vacheva.
