SPSU soccer team ranked 5th in new poll

Hornet soccer logoMarietta, Ga. (Sept. 12, 2011) – In the first 2011 NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) Men’s Soccer Coaches’ Top 25 Poll, the SPSU Hornets were ranked No. 5, a rise from the preseason poll, where they were ranked No. 7.

Southern Poly became the first team in the Top 25 Poll to reach five wins this year with a 2-1 victory against Faulkner University on Faulkner’s home turf in Montgomery, Ala., on Sept. 7. The Hornets have achieved at least 12 wins in each of the past three seasons.

The Hornets currently have a 6-0 record. The team won its fourth straight home match against Warner University on Sept. 4 during a rainstorm. The Hornets also won a Sept. 10 game 2-1 against Montreat College in North Carolina.

The Hornets’ next home game is Sun., Sept. 18, against Spring Hill College. Kickoff is at 3 p.m.
