PoliSci professor pens op-ed on Crimea/Russia/U.S. situation

Dr. Tom Rotnem

MARCH 18, 2014 – Dr. Tom Rotnem, a professor of political science the Department of Social and International Studies, had an op-ed piece, “West Should Beware of Further Sanctions on Russia,” published in the Marietta Daily Journal on March 18.

In his essay, Dr. Rotnem, who specializes in Russian politics, advocated a measured U.S. response to the Crimean referendum favoring annexation to Russia, arguing that stiff sanctions are unlikely to be effective and will only provoke Russian retaliation.

Dr. Rotnem earned his Ph.D. in political science from the Ohio State University, Columbus, where he also received a graduate certificate in Russian Area Studies. He also holds an MBA in finance from Georgia State University. This is his 12th year on the faculty of SPSU.
