President earns community recognition

BUY-Cobb Award

MAY 24, 2013 – Blacks United for Youth-Cobb, Inc., recently presented SPSU President Lisa A. Rossbacher with the Winston M. Strickland Award in appreciation of her “supreme dedication and outstanding leadership for the youth and senior citizens of Cobb County and the state of Georgia.”

Dr. Rossbacher is shown here accepting the award from BUY-Cobb representative Dr. Phil Patterson, chair of the department of Physics at SPSU.

Winston Strickland, who died in 2012, was a community activist and entrepreneur. He owned a barbershop and restaurant in the city of Marietta. With his personal resources, he fed the hungry and provided clothing for those in need. He fought for fair housing for the homeless and for improved educational opportunities for Cobb County youth.
