SEPT. 6, 2013 – When you take an SPSU apparel textile technology (ATT) graduate and add a popular cable television design competition, you get one of 12 talented individuals competing to become America’s next trendsetting designer on the Style Network’s “Styled to Rock,” produced by recording artist, actress and fashion designer Robyn “Rihanna” Fenty.
The contestant in question is SPSU’s Keenan Zeno, who graduated with a bachelor’s degree in apparel textile technology in 2011 and an M.B.A. this year. His journey has not been one without adversity. A native of New Orleans, Zeno found himself displaced in Atlanta in 2005 by Hurricane Katrina. “I lived two weeks in a hotel, saved up all the money I had to get an apartment and decided to stay in Atlanta,” he said. “I found my God-given talent for fashion in Atlanta, and I embraced it.”
The stakes are high on “Styled to Rock,” as each week contestants are tasked with designing for some of the biggest names in entertainment. At the end of the competition, the aspiring designer who “pushes the creative envelope and proves to have trendsetting vision fit for a star” will receive a $100,000 cash prize, a fashion feature in Glamour magazine and the chance to become the next member of Rihanna’s design team, according to the Style Network.
Zeno works as an accountant and has pursued his designing career in his personal time. A sleek, modern designer, the “Styled to Rock” contestant dreams of one day designing for musicians such as Usher, Miguel and Will. I. Am.
