CM professor is PI for two funded projects with foreign universities

OCT. 11, 2013 – The U.S. Department of State has named Dr. Hussein Abaza, an associate professor of construction management, as the principal investigator (PI) on two $1 million cooperative agreements to assist foreign universities.

Dr. Abaza and faculty members from SPSU’s departments of English, Technical Communication and Media Arts and Computer Game Design and Development will work to establish an academic partnership in communication design with the Indus Valley University (IVU) School of Art and Architecture in Karachi, Pakistan. The three-year agreement involves curriculum development and faculty mentorship in commercial design.

Through the “U.S.-Afghan University Partnership with Kabul Polytechnic University (KPU) in Geology and Mining, Establishing a Geographic Information System (GIS) Department” agreement, SPSU will collaborate with Georgia Tech over the next two years to establish a Center for Geographic Information Systems. Additionally, the faculty will work with KPU to establish two GIS classrooms, develop four GIS courses and organize software training for KPU faculty and technicians. SPSU will provide the project design and construction management as well as evaluate the GIS courses.
