Academically gifted twin scholars in media spotlight

Gober twins

Identical twins Joshua and Isaiah Gober of Southern Polytechnic State University were featured on WSB-TV News, thanks to the armloads of academic achievement awards they earned this spring along with degrees in chemistry.

To view their interview with reporter Ross Cavitt, go to WSB-TV News.

The Gober brothers of Flowery Branch got through college side by side, and they stood out in the crowd of high achievers that gathered at the 2012 Student Awards Banquet last month. They received the highest honor of the night – the University System of Georgia Chancellor’s Academic Recognition Award, recipients of which are honored by the reading of a proclamation in the Georgia General Assembly. In presenting the award to the Gobers at the awards banquet, SPSU President Lisa A. Rossbacher noted that this honor typically is given to one student per University System institution.

Both of the Gober brothers were also recognized as Who’s Who Award recipients and Outstanding Chemistry Students, and they shared the award for the Honors Academic Student of the Year. Joshua Gober also won the Honors Student of the Year award and the Honors Service Award for Upperclassmen.

The Gober twins also are the university’s first dual recipients of the President’s Distinguished Scholar Award, presented annually to the graduate with the highest GPA – 4.0, of course.

The brothers have been accepted into a graduate program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and intend to pursue doctorate degrees.
