Battering ram contest

APRIL 10, 2013 -- The SPSU student chapter of the American Concrete Institute (ACI) held its Third Annual Concrete Battering Ram Competition on April 3, attracting more than 50 students, faculty and Georgia ACI members to watch teams with names like The Beast, Blockbuster and Car Bombs attack concrete walls with concrete rams they designed themselves.

Appropriately enough, the team known as The Winners – comprised of senior civil engineering majors Wade Harrell (on the left in the photo), Andy Segars (on the right) and Ryan Phillips (not pictured) – won the competition, bashing a hole in its wall with the fewest number of blows.

The academic advisors of the ACI student chapter are Dr. Wasim Barham (at center in the photo) of the Civil and Construction Engineering department and Prof. Mehrdad Mesbahi of the Civil Engineering Technology department (not pictured).
