Southern Polytechnic rated among top ten degree producers for engineering technology minority students

Southern Polytechnic State University has been ranked in the top ten for the number of degrees earned by minority students in the area of engineering-related technology by Black Issues in Higher Education.

In its 10th annual report, Black Issues in Higher Education published its list of the colleges and universities that have conferred the highest number of degrees to minority students since 1992. The magazine lists SPSU as 9th in the nation for total minority baccalaureates in engineering-related technology. SPSU is ranked 6th for African American students and 20th for Asian Americans. For Hispanic students receiving a degree, SPSU is ranked 34th.

"Our recent rankings are indicative of the diversity on the SPSU campus. Not only is Southern Polytechnic a producer of African American graduates, but it also plays a significant role in the education of Asian American and Hispanic students," said Ron Koger, vice president for enrollment management and student services at SPSU.

Hispanic enrollment at SPSU has been increasing and is expected to grow further with the recent The Goizueta Foundation Grant of $750,000, $526,380 of which is to be awarded in scholarships to Hispanic students.
